MTU was founded in Germany in 1909 (MTU Aero Engines), and has a long standing tradition of building heavy duty engines in all types of applications. Detroit Diesel who also had a similar history of building quality engines was founded in 1937 in Detroit. In 1994, MTU and Detroit partnered to develop the 2000 & 4000 Series Engines. This started a long relationship that would lead to the formation of MTU Onsite Energy in 2000.
